The mobile product of Telsim uses the Telstra Wholesale Mobile Network, with predicted coverage areas in all Australian major cities, most outer-metro areas and larger regional centres, as well as many smaller towns and transport corridors.

To access 5G, you’ll need a 5G compatible device and be within a 5G coverage area. 5G is now available in most metro and regional areas and continues to expand. Check coverage below.

Initial view: Areas we predict coverage that is ordinarily sufficient to support voice and video calls, texting, web-browsing, social media and video streaming.
Full coverage: Areas we predict coverage that is ordinarily sufficient to support voice calls, texting and web-browsing, although higher-data activities involving video or high-resolution graphics may be slower or less consistent in areas near the outer edges.

Here are common factors that can affect your mobile experience within predicted coverage, along with practical tips to help improve it.

Signal Improvement Tips

Factor	Tips to improve
Local conditions: Your signal could be obstructed if you are located near trees, a hill, building or other structures. These obstacles can block or weaken the signal.	Consider moving to a different spot – ideally away from the obstruction or to a more open area.
Indoors: Being inside a building reduces your mobile signal. The impact depends on wall thickness, window size, metallic tinting and distance from outside.	Use Wi-Fi if available and enable Wi-Fi calling. Move to a better spot: go upstairs, near a window, or step outside if safe.
Inside your vehicle: Vehicle bodies can weaken signals. Phones below dashboard level may experience more signal loss.	Mount your phone on the dashboard. If not driving, hold your phone near a window.
Your type of phone: Some phones pick up signals better and support more features than others.	Consider using a device designed for regional coverage.
How you’re holding the phone: Signal quality can vary depending on how you hold your device.	Hold the phone away from your body or head. Use speakerphone or a headset.
Moving while on your phone: Signal may fluctuate due to obstructions and switching between towers.	Apply the tips above while on the move.
Crowds and traffic: Networks can slow down when many users are connected at the same time.	Use Wi-Fi where possible, as fixed networks handle higher volumes.

Factors influencing your actual speeds

Data download and upload speeds. The speed you will experience on your mobile device is limited by many factors such as:

The topography of your location (for example any obstructions of the line of sight to the base station);
Your distance from the base station;
The local weather conditions (like extreme heat or heavy rain);
How many other users are accessing the mobile network from the base station at the same time (i.e., number of concurrent users);
Whether your device supports the relevant mobile network spectrum bands
The hardware and software configuration on your device;
Any speed cap or other restriction applied to your plan; and
The destination of your internet browsing session (eg a busy web server).

Speed Caps

Speed caps apply to all mobile plans which use the Telstra Wholesale Mobile Network. Available speed caps are 100Mbps, 150Mbps or 250Mbps.

Check your plan’s Critical Information Summary to find out which speed cap applies.

Download speeds are capped at 100Mbps, 150Mbps, or 250Mbps depending on the selected plan. This is the maximum potential download speed. Typical speeds may often be slower and will vary due to factors such as location, device capabilities, distance from the base station, local conditions, concurrent users, hardware and software configuration and download/upload destination.

Now that the 3G network is closed, some phones can no longer call emergency services because they depended on 3G for calls. New rules introduced by the federal government (Ensuring mobiles can reach 000 after the 3G shutdown | ACMA ) mean incompatible phones will be blocked from accessing the mobile network.
